Course Objectives

David W. Rivers will focus on Cold Case Homicides and the Three Phases of Homicide Investigation: Crime Scene, Follow-up, Case and Courtroom Preparation. He will cover various types of death investigations.


Tom Martin will focus on the importance of the Homicide Crime Scene Reconstruction through the use of Blood Pattern Analysis, the application of DNA to Homicide and Death Scene Investigations, and Serial Murder Investigation.


Mike J. Coker will focus on officers and other helping professionals who will be presented with ideas and techniques to assist them in investigating domestic/family homicides. This course of instruction will include spouse and child homicide investigations.

Each day in the U.S., between 5 and 11 women are Killed by a male intimate partner, between 1800 and 4000 per year. In the United States, women are more likely to be killed by their male intimate partners than all other homicide categories combined. The Violence Against Women Act in 1994 was key legislation to curb domestic homicides.

David W. Rivers will focus on Procedural Issues in the Use of Deadly Force, Case Law, Subject and Witness Officer’s Rights, and Garrity Issues.
