1800-The United States Capitol building in Washington, DC holds its first session of the U.S. Congress; 1896-First transmission of electricity between a power plant and a city was sent from the Niagara Falls hydroelectric plant to industries in Buffalo, New York; 1914-The Federal Reserve Bank of the United States officially opens; 1918-World War I "War to end all Wars" ends; 1921-Dedication of the Tomb of the Unknowns; 1956-United States Supreme Court declared Alabama and Montgomery laws requiring segregated buses illegal; this ended the Montgomery Bus Boycott; 1967-Viet Cong release U.S. prisoners of war; 1970-"We Are, Marshall" Members of Marshall U.
